Former KOGAS head coach Yoo Yoo-hoon released a statement following the club’s contract cancellation.
“I would like to sincerely apologise to the fans who supported the Daegu KOGAS basketball team on the 4th. I have been doing my best as the head coach of Daegu KOGAS Basketball Team for the past two years, but as KOGAS notified me of contract termination on 1 June, I am stepping down without completing the contract period.”메이저놀이터
“Now that Daegu basketball has started again, I sincerely hope that it will become a prestigious team, and I would like to express my sincere gratitude as a coach and as a basketball person to everyone who actively took over the E-Land Basketball Team in a difficult environment for the rebirth and revival of Daegu basketball and the development of professional basketball. For the past 16 years, I have led the team as a head coach, shared the ups and downs with the players, and tried my best in every moment, and while not winning a championship remains a regret in my heart, I have been more rewarded by watching the players grow and seeing the team come together as a cohesive unit. Recently, the company has unilaterally notified me of the termination of my contract ahead of the season, but the reason for the termination is unacceptable as well as seriously damaging to my reputation. Therefore, I plan to carefully decide what to do about the company’s reason for the termination of my contract and the notification.”
“I would like to conclude my statement by saying that I hope that you will continue to support the growth of Korean basketball and that the success and development of professional basketball will continue. I will carefully consider and deal with the allegations and situations that have been raised so far so that I will not be ashamed of my life as a basketball player for the past 30 years. Once again, I sincerely thank the fans who have supported the Daegu KOGAS basketball team.”
Recently, KOGAS sacked head coach Yoo Yoo-hoon, general manager Shin Shin-woo, general manager Lee Min-hyung, and head coach Kim Seung-hwan, and announced Kang Hyuk as acting head coach. It also appointed a new head coach from within. The general consensus in the industry is that the move is part of the club’s normalisation process following the change of GASCO’s president. Former coach Yoo, former general manager Shin, former head coach Lee and the first president are all from Yongsan Go. There were many unfavourable views in the industry, and rumours abounded. The club sacked the former general manager, general manager, and head coach, who all had contracts remaining, but refused to guarantee them any remaining salary, unlike professional sports practice. The conflict between the two sides seems to have reached a boiling point.
