“I was eating with the director (Cho Sang-hyun) and said, ‘We still have Lee Seung-woo. I like our members.”
Changwon LG is on a winning streak. With a record of 27 wins and 14 losses, it is in second place alone. It is 3.5 games higher than No. 1 Anyang KGC Ginseng Corporation (31-11), but it is 3 games lower than Ulsan Hyundai Mobis (24-17), which is 3rd place.
LG, which has the experience of occupying second place more than any other team, has settled in second place, which can go directly to the semi-final playoffs after a long time.
Cho Dong-hyun, head coach of Hyundai Mobis, evaluated the LG player composition as complete. It is said that LG coach Cho Sang-hyun has properly created the soil for players who know how to defend to be able to defend in detail.
Coach Cho Sang-hyun uses a variety of players. He appoints Yoon Won-sang, who has excellent offensive instincts, as his most trusted defender, and uses Jeong In-deok, who had once retired, as an indispensable resource.
There is one resource that LG has not yet utilized. Seungwoo Lee
Lee Seung-woo played an average of 15 minutes and 22 seconds in 25 games this season, recording 4.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists.
Lee Seung-woo, who played an average of 26 minutes and 42 seconds until the first round, reduced his playing time to around 10 minutes from the second round. From the third round onwards, he appeared on the court less frequently. He is now not on the roster at all.
When coach Jo Sang-hyun mentioned Lee Seung-woo ahead of the match against Seoul Samsung on the 10th, he said, “Yesterday (9th) also practiced. If Seung-woo felt that it would be difficult to survive in KBL without a shot, he would. If the shooting ability is low, there is a limit to the playing time. However, it does not mean that Seung-woo has the defensive ability to properly block one player,” he said. Now that he is a senior in college, he is a player that will last a long time. He doesn’t ask me to shoot 3-point shots like a shooter, but I want him to be able to make 2-point shots (mid-range shots). Seung-woo works hard, but Jung In-deok is doing so well, so he has to compete and come in.”
A good example for Lee Seung-woo to follow is Lee Woo-seok (Hyundai Mobis).
Director Cho Sang-hyun said, “It is a good example. Lee Woo-seok doesn’t have as many shots as Seung-woo, but he is good at running 먹튀검증games like handoffs. What he tells Seung-woo is that he watches the game a lot, and that he should start with the 2-point shot. Now, even the two-point shot is shaking too much,” he said. (The defense that blocks Lee Seung-woo) throws away Seung-woo and enters deep help defense, but there is a limit to what can be derived. When Seung-woo goes in, he has to play a running game, but when he plays like Marei, he has difficulties in that part. Hee-jae Jeong and Min-soo Seo are more efficient in balancing the court from the outside,” he explained why it was difficult to appoint Lee Seung-woo.
LG trains regular league and D league players separately. LG coach Park Yoo-jin is in charge of training the D-League players.
When asked what kind of training he was training with Lee Seung-woo, coach Park Yu-jin said, “Before that, he had no idea, but after coming down to the D-League, he was under a lot of shooting pressure and stress. What the coach and I thought was that the mid-range shot is still fairly good, so I’m saying to grab this and move on to the next step.” He practices (to become) like Lee Woo-seok, who can go up immediately in connection with handoffs or dribbles.”
“I come out every day at dawn and practice 700 to 800 pieces. I didn’t feel the need or importance, but it’s been a long time since I didn’t play basketball, so I still go back and forth. I can’t see it every day, but I see it once every two days. The first 800 shots, the 600th and 700th, ‘No. Try it again,’ he said. I point out that it suits Seung-woo, but it is decreasing a lot. It seems to take a long time because I blinked,” he said. “There are two things (to be supplemented). A shot is a shot, but the defense needs to be supplemented. In particular, in defense without the ball, the center of gravity is disturbed, so there are many cases in which the ball is missed and conceded. I’m good at quick attacks, but I have poor judgment, so I focus on training. It is true that I am under a lot of psychological stress. We are on our way encouraging and talking, but it will take a little longer.”
I also met Lee Seung-woo.
When asked how he was doing, Lee Seung-woo said, “As you all know, I make up for my lacking parts. I am preparing while building my body,” he said. There would be things I would do to help the team, but that didn’t work out, so the coach made that decision. He must quickly figure out what the director wants and show that he has changed.”
He said that the training time of D-League and regular league players is different. For example, if D-League players train from 1 to 3 p.m., regular league players go on the court from 3 to 5 p.m. Some athletes do both of these drills. Lee Seung-woo was like that too.
Lee Seung-woo said, “From the 2nd and 3rd rounds, we trained in the D-League and the regular league. “Recently, there have been no D-League games, and there have been many (regular league) away games. As for the players who remain in Changwon, coach Park Yoo-jin remains, so we do weights in the morning and court training in the afternoon.”
Lee Seung-woo also practiced free throws with coach Kim Dong-woo after afternoon training at the beginning of the season.
Lee Seung-woo said, “I was confident because I prepared a lot (for shooting training). When he went in he thought he was going in well. Another thing I need is consistency, but I didn’t go crazy with that. I am still practicing,” he said. “Coach Yujin Park is still helping me. Originally, I had a lot of thoughts, but the fortress is comfortable. I emptied my mind.”
If Lee Seung-woo can go on the court at the eye level of coach Cho Sang-hyun, LG will surely become stronger.
Coach Park Yoo-jin also said, “I was eating with the coach and said, ‘We still have Seung-woo. I like our members’. She said that there are players in addition to the 12 entries.”
Lee Seung-woo said, “I’m sorry (to the fans), and on the other hand, thank you for waiting. Gratitude cannot be expressed in words. I am most sorry,” he said, “I’m sorry to ask you to wait, but when I come back, I will show you good play more consistently as much as you have waited for me.”
