Tottenham Hotspur have signed manager Enzi Postecoglou on a four-year contract.
Tottenham announced the news on the club’s website on 6 June (KST), saying, “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Postecoglou as our new first-team coach, becoming the first Australian-born manager in the English Premier League (EPL). He will join the club on 1 July and has signed a four-year contract. We will confirm his coaching staff in due course.”
Tottenham have finally confirmed the appointment of their first-team coach. Spurs decided to part ways with Conte at the end of March. The club decided to go into the season with an interim manager instead of appointing a permanent one immediately afterwards. Christian Stellini, who worked as an assistant coach under Conte, was appointed as acting manager.토토사이트
However, Sturridge was sacked shortly afterwards. A 1-6 defeat at Newcastle United proved decisive. Spurs ended up with Ryan Mason in charge until the end of the season in an ‘acting manager’s acting manager’ system. In the meantime, a number of candidates had been linked with the club, including Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino.
Initially, the favourite was Feyenoord boss Arne Schott. Primarily in the Dutch game, he led Feyenoord to the title this season. However, Slott recently re-signed with Feyenoord. It was rumoured that he used Tottenham to secure a new contract on good terms.
The search for Tottenham’s next manager is back to square one. The shortlist has been narrowed down again. Fulham boss Marco Silva, former Spain coach Luis Enrique, and Postecoglou were all mentioned.
Postecoglou is the mentor of Oh, who joined Celtic in January. He has been in charge of Celtic since 2021. The impact has been huge. In his first season in charge, the Hoops won the Premiership and League Cup, making it a double. He was particularly praised for regaining the league title, which was lost to rivals Rangers in the 2020-21 season.
They won the league title again this season. He has proven his leadership skills by winning back-to-back Scottish championships. He recently completed the ‘Domestic Treble’. After finishing at the top of the league and League Cup, Celtic beat Inverness on the 4th to lift the Scottish Cup. Impressed by their performance, Tottenham approached Postecoglou, and it was finally official.
When the news broke that Postecoglou was set to join Spurs, it was on a 2+1 year contract. On the 5th, transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano said, “Tottenham have completed a verbal agreement with Postecoglou. It’s a two-year deal with an option for a one-year extension.”
However, it was actually a four-year deal. Tottenham have not had long stints with their last three managers. Pochettino led the club for around five years from 2014 before being replaced by Jose Mourinho, who left after 17 months. Nuno Espirito Santo lasted just four months and Conte 17 months.
The UK’s Evening Standard also said: “While Postecoglou’s four-year deal is encouraging in that it is a vote of confidence, surely chairman Daniel Levy and Tottenham fans will have to be patient. Postecoglou has admitted that it usually takes him six months to a year to build his team.”
