Soccer Association final decision on national team coach
contract until 2026 North and Central America World Cup Before
debuting in Colombia next month,
German coach Jürgen Klinsmann (59, photo), a former world-class star player, took over the Korean national soccer team. There was something more important than salary or contract period. It turned out that, like previous coaches such as Paulo Bento, the condition of ‘living in Korea’ took precedence over anything else.
The Korea Football Association announced on the afternoon of the 27th that it had appointed Klinsmann as the new head coach of the vacant national soccer team먹튀검증. It is the ninth time in the history of foreign full-time positions. The soccer team, which finished the Bento coaching system at the end of the 2022 Qatar World Cup, selected Klinsman as coach after going through the process of selecting a successor coach for about two months.
The contract period with coach Klinsman is about 3 years and 5 months from March to the 2026 World Cup finals in North and Central America. The details of the contract, such as the annual salary, were not disclosed according to the agreement of both sides, but it is known that the amount exceeds Bento’s amount (approximately 1.8 billion won). But there are more important things than salary. It is a condition that, like former coach Bento, he will live in Korea and directly look at the players to be selected for the national team. In order to receive this promise, Michael Müller, head of the National Team Power Enhancement Committee, personally visited coach Klinsman.
The fact that the condition of ‘residence in Korea’ was particularly emphasized is not irrelevant to director Klinsman’s previous career. From 2004 to 2006, when he was the coach of the German national team, he stayed in the United States, where he mainly resides, causing so-called ‘work from home’ controversy. At the professional club Hertha Berlin, where he last served as manager, he announced his intention to resign through social media after 10 weeks in office, leaving a stain on his leadership career.
However, Klinsman’s performance as a leader is also clear. He led the German national team to third place at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, and coached the US national team from 2011 to 2016, advancing to the round of 16 at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Although there was a leadership vacuum for about 3 years after Hertha Berlin, until recently, he looked at the soccer field by working in the technical research group of the International Football Federation (FIFA) with Cha Doo-ri, head of FC Seoul’s Youth Enhancement Office.
Coach Klinsman will return to Korea sometime next week and will make his debut in an evaluation match against Colombia at Munsu Stadium in Ulsan on the 24th. Through the Football Association, he said, “I feel honored to be following in the footsteps of great coaches who have directed the Korean national team from Guus Hiddink to former coach Bento.” I will do my best,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Korea Football Association will hold a press conference at the Seoul Sinmunro Soccer Center on the afternoon of the 28th, and Chairman Muller, who is a party to the negotiations, will personally reveal the background of Klinsman’s appointment as head coach.
