French judo hero Teddy Riner (34) has built a monumental tower by winning the world championship for the 11th time.
On the 14th (Korean time), Riner won the men’s over 100kg class at the 2023 International Judo Federation (IJF) World Championships held in Doha, Qatar.
Riner extended his record for most World Championships wins to 11th.
Riner, who was born on the French island of Guadeloupe in the Caribbean, won the World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2007 as the youngest player ever to win at the age of 18 years and 5 months.
He also achieved 154 consecutive wins from the World Championships in September 2010 to the Paris Grand Slam in February 2020.
However, at the Tokyo Olympics held in 2021, he failed to advance to the final due to a chronic knee injury. He was evaluated as having passed his prime, but he showed off his strength by reaching the top of the World Championships this time.
He will challenge the Paris Olympics to be held in his home country, France, next year.
After the game, Riner said, “It feels good to hear the French national anthem for the first time in a while. I want to achieve good results in Paris next year.”메이저사이트
Meanwhile, in the Korean team participating in this event, Lee Ha-rim (Korea Racing Association) in the men’s 60kg class and Lee Jun-hwan (Yongin University) in the men’s 81kg class both won bronze medals.
With two bronze medals, Korea ranked 14th overall. South Korea has not reached the top of the world championships since Ahn Chang-rim (men’s 73kg class) and Jo Goo-ham (men’s 100kg, retired) won gold medals in 2018.
