Atletico Madrid will begin work on its stadium during the preseason. The Civitas Metropolitano was completed and opened in 2017, but this summer, six years after opening, the club will be adding seats.

While the stadium already holds a large enough crowd, Atlético Madrid wanted to accommodate even more demand.
According to Spain’s Diario As, Atletico Madrid is planning to increase the stadium’s capacity in response to growing crowds and a surge in season ticket demand.
Under the currently unveiled plan, Atletico Madrid’s home stadium would have 70,000 seats, an increase of 1,400 seats from the current 68,600. Atletico Madrid will dedicate 60,000 of the 70,000 seats to season ticket members.
Atletico Madrid will have more money to spend after qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for the 11th consecutive season. Their consistent performance has helped them financially. Going forward, Atletico Madrid will be able to generate more revenue from gate receipts.
